Chief Justice Beasley Latest Directive

Industry News,

Chief Justice Beasley issued a new emergency directive as summary eject and eviction hearings are able to proceed. Under this directive, summary ejectment and eviction hearings can be scheduled up to 30 days from the original filing date. Traditionally, hearings are to be scheduled within 7 business days. This extension will help manage the back-log of cases due to the moratorium. We anticipated an extension a few weeks ago and provided feedback to the Chief Justice on what would be reasonable extensions given the circumstances. Among other recommendations, a maximum 30 day extension was offered to counter the 60 day extension that was proposed. Currently the directive does not have an expiration date we will provide any additional updates as they become available.
