GCAA Supports Passage of P.A.V.E. Act and November Transportation Referendum
The Greater Charlotte Apartment Association applauds Governor Josh Stein for signing the P.A.V.E. Act into law and thanks Representative Tricia Cotham for her leadership, along with the entire Mecklenburg Delegation, in making this long-awaited transportation funding plan a reality. The bill garnered bipartisan support in both chambers of the North Carolina General Assembly, reflecting broad legislative agreement on advancing local transportation funding options.
The new law gives the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners the authority to place a 1-cent sales tax referendum on the November 2025 ballot, with dedicated funding for road, transit, and infrastructure improvements.
GCAA strongly supports the County Commission moving forward with placing the referendum on the ballot, and we support its passage by voters this November. A modern, efficient, and multimodal transportation network is critical to addressing our region’s housing affordability, accessibility, and economic mobility challenges. Our members—property owners, developers, suppliers, and residents alike understand that reliable transportation options are essential for connecting people to jobs, schools, and opportunity.
We look forward to working with community partners to help ensure this important measure reaches voters and earns their support at the ballot box.
