HB 110 – Landlord Submission of HOPE Program Enacted But Application Period Closes soon

On December 9, 2021 Governor Roy Cooper signed HB 110 - Landlord Submission of the Housing Opportunities and Prevention of Evictions (HOPE) Program. This bill will allow landlords in North Carolina to apply on behalf of residents for HOPE funds with the resident’s permission. Among other things, it would also allow for rent recovery on behalf of current or previous residents, allow for reasonable late fees, and align the recovery amounts with the federal guidelines. Additionally, it makes persons living in motels and hotels eligible for rental assistance. Click here to review the bill.

However, administrators for the program announced on Dec. 13, 2021 that the application period for the HOPE Program will close at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, with available federal funding committed to applications currently in-process and those expected in the week ahead. Read the entire press release.
