Beyond a Title Change: The True “Ask” of DE&I Leaders

Acknowledging the need and appointing a principal are only the start of your organizations’ diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) journey. The work that it takes to develop a culture that embraces inclusion and belonging goes beyond the window dressing of a new title. Endowing these leaders and their teams with authority and resources to build out DE&I programs is a key strategic investment in the longevity of your enterprise. Sit down with DE&I Leaders, Crystal Dukes and Monica Frazier as we explore what it takes to genuinely support DE&I in the rental housing industry, consider the impact on DE&I leaders once their appointed and learn how to help them and your DE&I program thrive.

Expand Your Markets with Accessibility

Although the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law 33 years ago, the rental housing industry continues to struggle with moving beyond the legal compliance of checking the accessibility box. By reframing the lens of accessibility, our industry has a chance to expand our markets, innovate our communities and provide housing solutions that yield higher ROIs. Let’s have an open discussion, led by our expert panel, about the best ways to leverage accessibility and inclusion as competitive advantages. We’ll also examine our implicit biases during the decision-making process from the top down and find ways to budget for change while mitigating risk and liabilities.

Gather ‘Round: Fostering Belonging through Storytelling

The impact of storytelling is profound, from fireside chats to story time in the classroom to TV comedy specials, storytelling helps us feel seen, educates us on empathy and shines a light on universal human experiences, like fear and kindness. In the workplace, professional relationships and team building offers organizations the opportunity to facilitate constructive storytelling on impactful experiences that shape our colleagues’ careers and perspectives. This is the foundation for inclusion and belonging. Join our panel of rental housing experts as they explain how to provide productive and secure spaces to share stories about impactful experiences that help to shape your outlook. Through lunch and learns, employee resource groups (ERGs), cultural celebrations and genuine inquiries, we can build compassionate and respectful teams that foster growth and belonging.
