Committees

committee-programs-07

GCAA activities are frequently directed and completed by the volunteer efforts of association members. For areas that require ongoing and specific attention, committees have been formed. Involvement in a particular committee gives members the opportunity to impact GCAA business and decision-making, as well as the chance to meet and interact with their industry colleagues. To follow is a list of the GCAA’s seven Committees, their areas of concern, and the names and e-mail addresses of their respective chairpeople.

GCAA encourages its membrs to become involved in one or more of these committees. Feel free to visit any scheduled meeting to find out more about a particular group and its current activities. Most committees meet monthly; to sign up to serve on a committee, or for more information, please complete and return this form: GCAA Committee Sign-Up Sheet

Regular meeting schedules are posted for each committee, but please phone or email to verify meeting date/time/place as they sometimes change due to educational programs held in the GCAA’s Education Center.

Membership: (Parry Cobb, 2010 Chair)
This committee forms the important tasks of obtaining quality new members and retaining existing members. Its members develop and execute strategies for member recruiting, orientation, and retention - including direct contact and follow-up with prospects and current members. This group organizes annual membership drives and additional networking opportunities within budget constraints. Meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 9:00 am at the GCAA.

Programs: (Sandra Fick, 2010 Chair)
This group schedules a variety of programs for the GCAA’s General Membership Meetings with the primary goal of securing  informative, engaging speakers who will present subjects that appeal to a wide range of association members. The Programs Committee also provides GCAA members with timely seminars on industry-related topics that supplement the content of NAAEI Designation Courses. Topics have included legal issues, marketing, leasing, environmental issues, risk managament, fair housing, and more. Meets on the first Thursday of the month at 9:00 am at the GCAA.

Government Affairs: (Chad Hagler, 2010 Chair)
The government affairs committee monitors legislation and code issues affecting the multifamily housing industry at the local, state, and national levels. Its members represent the apartment industry before Charlotte City Council, the Mecklenburg County Commission, and governmental staff. This committee also works closely with the Apartment Association of North Carolina. Meets on the second Friday of the month at 8:45 am at the GCAA.

Operations (Engle Addington, 2010 Chair)
Operations Committee members are the architects of the GCAA’s annual New Construction Tour, a major undertaking which showcases new apartment product in our market each fall. The group also collaborates to collect, analyze, and disseminate information for the GCAA’s annual salary survey and also provides support to member firm Real Data in the production and distrubution of its semi-annual apartment industry market report. Meets on the last Wednesday of the month at 9:00 am at the GCAA.

Public Relations (Michelle Sanger, 2010 Chair)
This group works to strengthen the rapport between multifamily industry professionals (GCAA members, specifically) and the local public. Members of the P.R. Committee undertake activities which emphasize the positive aspects of apartment renting, promote inter-association camaraderie, and provide service and support to the community. Meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 10:30 am at the GCAA.

Education Advisory Council: (Mindy McCorkle, 2010 Chair)
This council oversees the NAA Education Institute Designation Programs, including NALP, CAM, CAMT, CAPS, and CAS. Council members provide guidance in the areas of policy, member and community outreach, faculty development, program evaluation, curriculum design, and student participation. Council members must be GCAA volunteer instructors. Meeting schedule varies.

Products & Services Council (Patrick Ryan, 2010 President)
The PSC enhances the valuable working relationships between GCAA-member apartment owner/operators and vendors. Council members assist with organizing the annual Trade Show and Golf Tournament, as well as sponsoring social and charitable events such as volunteer efforts at Crisis Assistance Ministry, baseball outings, talent shows, field days, and more. The PSC is open to GCAA Associate members only, and is limited to 28 participants. At present there is a waiting list to join this council.
