AANC Announces 2009 "Legislative Days"
Program Details

We're excited about the AANC Legislative Days in mid-June and look forward to excellent participation in 2009. We have several active - maybe even heated - issues this year and are counting on AANC members across the state to help us deliver our important industry messages to the members of the N.C. General Assembly.

Below is the calendar of events for the Raleigh-based gatherings; please save the dates and register with your local apartment association.

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009:

  • AANC Board of Directors Meeting from 2:00-4:00 pm at the Hilton North Raleigh.
    Address: 3415 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh, NC 27609 (Phone: 919-878-4903)
  • The Issues Briefing for Legislative Days Participants will be held at the same location from 4:30-6:00 pm.
  • The Legislative Dinner will be held in the Glenwood South neighborhood from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at Bogart's American Grill, 510 Glenwood Avenue (Phone: 919-832-1122). Dinner is complimentary to Legislative Days attendees.

Hotel Accommodations for the night of June 16th should be made at the all-new Marriott Raleigh City Center, close to the Legislature. The address:500 Fayetteville Street, Raleigh, NC 27601. Guests can make reservations either online at www.marriott.com/rdumc or through reservations at 1-888-236-2427. The Code for the block is AAN. For guests making reservations online they will enter the code of AANAANA where it says group code. The AANC block room rate is $129.00.

AANC Officers

The Apartment Association of North Carolina announced its new Officers for 2-year terms beginning September 1, 2008:

John D. Porter, III - President
Mr. Porter has developed, owned and operated multifamily housing for over twenty years in the Carolinas and the Upper Midwest. He is Senior Vice President of Charter Properties, Inc. a Charlotte based firm begun in 1971 and wholly owned by the Springs Investment Company. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute and participates in its Urban Plan educational program at the local high school and college levels. He served as president of the GCAA in 2004.
As incoming AANC President, Mr. Porter will work on increasing membership participation throughout the state, especially in the smaller towns and cities. To accomplish this, he plans to travel to various local apartment group functions and introduce video conferencing to the AANC’s state-wide Board of Directors. He notes that “It is imperative that we reach out to all of our members and let them know how important their individual voices are in the political process and, in doing so, remind our legislators of the apartment industry’s importance to quality, affordable and safe housing in North Carolina.”

Susan Passmore, CAM, CAPS - Vice President
Susan Passmore has been with Blue Ridge Property Management since 2001 and serves as the Director of Property Management. She holds her Certified Apartment Manager (CAM) and Certified Apartment Property Supervisor (CAPS) designations through the National Apartment Association. She is also a graduate of the NAA Leadership Lyceum. Susan is a licensed North Carolina Real Estate Broker and has over 15 years of multi-family property management experience. Serving as past board member and a two-time president for the Triad Apartment Association, she currently serves as Vice President for the Apartment Association of North Carolina and as Secretary for the Piedmont Triad Chapter of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW).

Kim Langlois, CAM, CAPS - Treasurer
Kim Langlois is the Regional Director for Donathan Properties, Inc. in Greensboro. He is a two-time past Treasurer, one-time Secretary and currently serves as a director for the Triad Apartment Association. He began his property management career in 1976 in Austin, Texas. He holds his Certified Apartment Manager (CAM) and Certified Apartment Property Supervisor (CAPS) designations through the National Apartment Association as well as his NC Real Estate License.

Mindy McCorkle, CAM, CAPS - Secretary
Mindy McCorkle has been Crosland’s Operations Manager since 2001. She holds the CAM and CAPS designation and is a member of NAA’s faculty after having completed the Advanced Instructor Training program. With over 14 years of experience in the industry, she has been awarded multiple awards, most notably the National Apartment Association’s Professional Designate of the Year in 2006. She has served on the Greater Charlotte Apartment Association’s board of directors since 1999 and served as President in 2006. She also currently serves on the Triad Apartment Association’s Board of Directors and NAA’s Communication Advisory Board, is a CAM & CAPS Project Grader for NAA, serves as Chairperson of the GCAA’s Education Advisory Council, and serves as Vice President of the Charlotte Regional Safety and Health School.
